![]() Like I mentioned on my first post about LibreCAD, an open source CAD software, I kinda forced again to use CAD software because I have a small project a few months back. The last time I use Autocad is version 2006 and then I switch to SketchUp and Blender3D. I used to use Architecture just for the detail component library, but I don’t miss that very much and it’s not that hard to replace with your own stuff. It’s been a very long time since I using Autocad for work related. It’s nowhere near as good as a real architectural BIM software. Like, I still struggle to believe drafting with a trackpad could even be that good.ĪutoCAD Architecture is terrible if you mean the 3D “BIM” drafting stuff they tried to glom onto it. The most amazing thing to me is that if you told past me that I would be using CAD with a trackpad I would have called you insane, but damn if it doesn’t work super well on a MacBook. All the command line stuff is the same, and you can also customize it just like on Windows. The layout follows more traditional Mac conventions, so there’s no ribbon or anything like that, but it fits in with most other Mac software in that respect. It’s generally pretty good, which is as much as I can ever say for AutoCAD. Most of my work is in Revit, but I have AutoCAD stuff sometimes, including for some personal projects, and at home I use an M1 MacBook Pro. Who uses the Architecture features and is it good/worth choosing a Windows PC over an Apple device? I see that the AutoCAD Architecture toolset and library is only available for Windows, so that's another factor to consider. I hate to have to transfer to the subscription model, but I know I'll need to eventually. One other thing: I've been using an old 2011 LT license and it works fine for me. I've read about how terribly it used to run years ago, but now that they've made it compatible with Apple silicon, I'm wondering if this is the time to jump in. However, I'm just curious about others' experience with running AutoCAD on a Mac. I also use an iPad Pro for drawing and an iPhone, so it would be great if all my devices could talk to each other easily. It's time for me to upgrade my computer and I'm considering getting back into the Apple ecosystem, which I like better than Windows. I'm a residential designer and currently use AutoCAD LT on a Windows laptop. ![]() Welcome to /r/architecture! Check our wiki and rules in the sidebar!
